Art Chicago

Ugh I've been thinking about this blog for a while, then I went to Art Chicago and left so visually overwhelmed by the whole thing that I was more confused about what to say after I left than I was before I saw anything. I walked around the show notebook in hand and camera around the neck looking very reporter like, people even asked if i was one to which I replied not really or sort of, I eventually figured out a great story for the question but then people stopped asking probably because I was then up on the 12th floor with the big guns and if they don't know you they could careless about you, 4k worth of camera hanging around your neck or not, my cool story which I never used was that I was an art scout working for a wealthy but anon collector. Any who about the art as you've gathered already I'm sure I don't know where to start, "Next" art over all was as would be expected the most interesting art on display I'm just going to list some of what I thought where highlights of the Next show.

western exhibitions My good buddy Scott Speh is really make a name for himself as a gallerist and curator I don't always love what he shows but it's always interesting. Stan and Dutes where doing live performance art all weekend at his space they always do very cool stuff.

Mummery + Schnelle I liked the paintings they had up by Philip Akkerman They really reminded me of Ivan Albirghts stuff not as good as Albright but interesting nun the less.

mixed greens Great name for a gallery. Kim Hart had a installation which had sculptures of dogs on a hunt running into a paint backdrop of a forrest very cool took up the whole space probably the best thing I saw at Next.

new zones They where showing some of the best photos at Next I really liked Dianne Bos's pinhole photos, and they had some nice drawings that reminded me of Kolwitz (german expressionist) I think they'd be a good fit for me.

claire Oliver They had theses giant I'm talking 20 foot long photo's on display by AES+F , that I was really torn about yes they got my attention (they are huge) yes I looked at them for quite a long time (the are huge) and yes technically they are impressive (they are huge) but all in all they left me lacking, they just seemed to slick and commercial to perfect a little to much of everything. Watch the video by Black Estate on the website it is super cool.

Camara Oscura Very digitally manipulated work seems to be of there liking they showed several artists in there space and I liked them all a lot check out there website it's a fantastic collection of 21st century photography.

All Rise This is a local gallery that I could walk to that I've never head of, I guess I need to get out more. They had these photo's up by Sebastien Lapointe that I just ate up the where so cool the images where of the sides of record sleeves and they where fairly large around 4 feet high but skinny like maybe half a dozen records in each photos. The photos where mounted on boards covered in what looked like bar top varnish and then leaning on the wall super de duper cool Best photos at the Next Fair.
